Dr. Joseph Jewell is a celebrated Southern California guitarist and educator. Equally adept on classical and electric guitar, Joe can be found performing as a featured jazz soloist at the State University of New York Jazz Guitar Festival the week after performing the avante garde concert music of eminent Chinese Composer Tan Dun at the La Jolla Chamber Music Festival. In 2003, Joe completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Guitar Performance at the University of Southern California. Joe performs frequently with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Ensemble. Joe's studio credits include performances on soundtracks for numerous television shows and films and he is featured as a studio guitarist on over 50 commercially available recordings. As an accompanist, Joe has performed with vocalists Andrea Marcovicci and Christine Ebersole and has recorded on their most recent albums. He has performed in the orchestras for over a hundred musical theater productions.

Dr. Jewell is currently Assistant Professor of Guitar and Jazz Studies at Fullerton College. He conducts the Jazz Guitar Ensemble and Combo 2. His Jazz Guitar, Jazz Theory, and Jazz Musicianship classes are unique to the Community College environment, exposing students to jazz concepts usually reserved for University study.

His current interest is the music of the legendary Belgian gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and performs regularly with Club Django, Southern California's leading proponent of Reinhardt's music. In Spring 2006, Dr. Jewell will be releasing his first jazz recording, Note Counts, featuring some of the finest musicians in Southern California. His personal website is www.joejewellguitar.com.
