Concert Band
Professor Emeritus Larry Lowder formed the Fullerton College Community Band in 1974. The mission of the band is to provide amateur musicians an opportunity to perform for, and educate the public of the North Orange County Community College District. The Fullerton College Community Band has evolved into one of the premier Community Bands in the United States. Throughout its thirty-one year history the Fullerton College Community Band has been involved with commissioning new compositions for band, performing at National Community Band Festivals, and has engaged soloists from the Pacific Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic to perform with the ensemble. Larry Lowder conducted the band until 1992 when the baton was passed to Dr. Anthony P. Mazzaferro.
Dr. Mazzaferro is the Director of Bands and Professor of Tuba/Euphonium at Fullerton College. Dr. Mazzaferro has guest conducted bands and orchestras internationally and is currently celebrating his thirteenth year as the conductor of the Fullerton College Community Band. The band performs several concerts during the year throughout Orange County and presents a series of free "Concerts on the Quad" at Fullerton College each summer. The band also performs throughout the community, including the annual "Night In Fullerton" celebration of the Arts. The band continues to receive invitations to perform throughout the Southland and has been highly praised for its performances by Music Educators and Professional Musicians in the community.
