About the artists:
Jamie Shew:
Stirring – Stunning – Spirited – Spicy. These four adjectives are often used to describe Jamie Shew as a jazz vocalist, pianist, composer, and educator. Heralded for her inventive ways of arranging and stylizing a song, Jamie’s music has rapidly gained critically acclaimed attention internationally. Her latest release, Eyes Wide Open, features a world-renowned band with Larry Koonse, Darek Oles, Joe Bagg, and Jason Harnell. Jamie prides herself on being a versatile musician - her voice molds seamlessly into a variety of styles and flavors. Though, with her roots in the Pacific Northwest, Jamie was also born to swing! Dick Metcalf from Contemporary Fusion Reviews states, “Jazz vocals just do NOT get more inspiring … among the very best jazz vocals I’ve heard in a long time… simply stellar.” In addition to a dynamic performance career, Jamie is proudly the Director of Vocal Jazz Studies at Fullerton College and an in-demand clinician and artist for jazz festivals around the globe.
Jeremy Siskind:
Pianist-composer Jeremy Siskind is “a genuine visionary” (Indianapolis Star) who “seems to defy all boundaries” (JazzInk) with music “rich in texture and nuance” (Downbeat). A top finisher in several national and international jazz piano competitions, Siskind is a two-time laureate of the American Pianists Association and the winner of the Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition. Since making his professional debut juxtaposing Debussy’s Etudes with jazz standards at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Siskind has established himself as one of the nation’s most innovative and virtuosic modern pianists. A highly-respected educator, Siskind has written 13 publications with Hal Leonard, including the landmark instructional books Jazz Band Pianist and First Lessons in Piano Improv. He currently teaches at California’s Fullerton College, chairs the National Conference for Keyboard Pedagogy’s “Creativity Track,” and spreads peace through music in places like Lebanon, Tunisia, and Thailand with the non-profit organization, Jazz Education Abroad. Jeremy Siskind is a Yamaha artist.
