Siskind - Johnson Recital

Siskind - Johnson Recital

Performed:
Sunday, March 15th, 2020 - Sunday, March 15th, 2020

About the event

Join us for two album release concerts in one night! First, Jeremy Siskind, pianist and Fullerton College faculty member, will present his Perpetual Motion Etudes for piano. The Perpetual Motion Etudes are nine devilishly difficult new piano pieces that blur the lines between classical and jazz. They’re musical fever dreams full of high-flying pianistic danger. Siskind is “a genuine visionary” (Indianapolis Star) who “seems to defy all boundaries” (JazzInk) with music “rich in texture and nuance” (Downbeat). Then, Siskind will join New York-based vocalist and Berklee College of Music faculty member Aubrey Johnson to present music from her new recording, Unraveled. Known for her ability to sing incredibly difficult music with seemingly effortless accuracy, Johnson has performed or recorded with jazz icons Bobby McFerrin, Fred Hersch, Jimmy Cobb, and John Zorn. A specialist in contemporary and Brazilian music, Johnson’s album features songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Egberto Gismonti, Annie Lennox, and Michael Sachs, who will join Siskind and Johnson on bass clarinet.
