Bruce Babad

Jazz Studies

Bruce Babad (b'BAD) is Coordinator of Jazz Studies.  Courses include; Jazz History - An Appreciation, Beginning Jazz Improvisation, Pop/Commercial Arranging and Applied Lessons (Saxophone).  In addition, he is the director of Jazz Band and Combo I. Under his direction, the Fullerton College Jazz Band has been selected to play the international jazz festival sponsored by the Los Angeles Jazz Institute.  In May of 2011, the Jazz Band opened for Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band.  As a woodwind artist, Bruce has performed and/or recorded with; Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Mark Murphy, Little Milton, Barry Manilow, Natalie Cole, Bobby Caldwell Mel Lewis, Peter Sprague and others.  Currently Bruce can be heard with the Grammy nominated Bill Holman Band, Luther Hughes' Cannonball/Coltrane Project and the Bruce Babad Quartet/Quintet. Bruce’s first CD release as a leader, “A Tribute To Paul Desmond” was released in April of 2011.  Babad is the Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Fullerton College, (Fullerton, CA) and can be heard on over seventy-five commercial recordings, numerous jingles, television and movie soundtracks.
